Interviews: What goes on? Is this a bad thing?!?

I sent in an inland application in April of last year. At the beginning of this month my husband was approved to sponsor me. A few days later the Etobicoke CIC issued a letter to me that states "I am pleased to advise you that the processing of your application for permanent residence will be finalized at an interview that has been scheduled for DATE." I'm asked to bring two forms of ID plus my Passport (and my husband of course).

What exactly is this interview for? Is there anything else I should bring besides the ID? Like pictures of us or blah blah blah?

Thanks for the help (I'm totally panicking!).

Relax, this is your landing interview, which is quite different from the kind of interview you would have if you had not already received AIP. You need only bring the items requested in the letter, along with your sponsor.

Landing already?

These two letters, which we received today, are the first letters we've gotten from Immigration Canada. Precisely 5 days after my husband was approved to sponsor the interview letter, with a date set for the end of this month, was processed. It's been roughly 11 months since we've sent in the application to Vegreville.

This seems incredibly fast and out of the ordinary (based on what I've read here). Fingers crossed it's not too good to be true! ;D Thank you! I'm much less panicky, haha!

In all honesty, I kind of hope my wife and I are asked to attend an interview before obtaining my wife's PR visa. Why? I would prefer to talk to someone face-to-face to make our case and ensure the interviewer understands that our relationship is genuine. One thing I think that needs to be reformed in this process is contacting the visa office responsible for an applicant's case. If I try to call the Hong Kong visa office to ask questions, I cannot. The best I can do is send an e-mail. I have sent a couple of e-mails already and not one reply. At the end of the day we are paying the government and they are providing a service, so if we consider ourselves as customers, then I can say without doubt that the service quality has been pretty awful thus far.

Why would anyone be 'nervous' about an interview? If the relationship is real, there shouldn't be any reason to feel apprehension. From the government's perspective they are calling an interview to make sure that everything is legit, which is fair enough...so if the relationship is real, what's there to be worried about?

I respect that for most of us, this is a major event and if something were to go wrong, it could have a huge impact on our future...but you have to stay positive and go in with the attitude 'how can they refuse our application if we meet all the requirements and our relationship is real'?

Don't sweat it...you'll pass with flying colours!!!

Thank you for the vote of confidence Fencesitter! We've been together 11 years and have been living together for 5 (and we have one furry child). I haven't strangled him in his sleep yet so it must be true love. ;)

I've read so many horror stories here about the interview process that I freaked out when I saw the word "interview" on that paper. Especially since it was issued almost immediately after the sponsorship part was approved. I'm still freaking, but I'm freaking less than before.

Yeah, and I think whoever reviews our application will have a good old chuckle...we've included some funny things that annoy us about each other...anyone who has been married will easily understand...and with that, they will know we are genuine...

Don't worry...you'll be fine!!!
