At what stage in the outland application process do you receive word as to whether or not an interview is required? Is it included with the sponsorship approval? If they decide an interview is not required, how great a risk is there that they will change their mind and still request an interview? Our case is very simple. No issues. Married. No children. No previous marriages.

no, i don't believe it's at sponsorship approval time... they have the right to call it at any time during the process, so up until the day the pp request is received, it is a possibility... they will not notify you if they have not decided to interview...

usually interviews come about due to red flags on the application (which can be anything they don't like or understand, not just the factors you've mentioned) but i believe there is also a portion that are random, quality control...

i'll add that i believe if you order CAPIS notes it'll tell you if the interview has been waived, which generally means they won't request it, but i don't believe that's a written in stone thing either... they could go back and change their minds if they find something they don't like...

They definitely don't decide at the sponsorship approval stage. In my CAIPS notes, they didn't decide until well into the process. My husband applied in Jan., 2008; in Dec. 2008 there is a note that they reviewed the file, there is not enough evidence to prove a relationship, and an interview will be required.
