I received the below letter by email today... Can someone explain if this is good or bad? Is this a standard letter?

Dear applicant,

This refers to your application for permanent residence in Canada. Based on your submission to date, you have failed to satisfy an officer that you meet the requirements of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. In order to determine if you comply with Canadian immigration requirements, it will be necessary for you to attend an interview at the Consulate General at the following date and time:

Date: August Time:

Your sponsor must be available for a possible phone interview on the same date between 8:30 am and 12:30pm (Hong Kong time). Please provide us with a residential phone number and address for your sponsor 7 days before the interview. Fax to 852-2867-7392. Not all sponsors will be contacted.

If your sponsor is in Hong Kong, Macao or mainland China, he/she may accompany you to the interview.

Please note: If you fail to attend your scheduled interview, your interview will not be re-scheduled.
We will conduct an assessment of your application based on the information available on file,
and this may result in a refusal.

Also please note that failure to disclose the use of a representative may be considered misrepresentation. The consequence of misrepresentation under Section 40 of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act could be a two-year period of inadmissibility. If an agent has advised, consulted, or represented you in this application but has not been disclosed, kindly complete the form “Use of a Representative” (IMM5476) and submit it at the time of your interview. The form can be downloaded from CIC's Internet website at:

http:// www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/representative.asp

On the day of your interview, please report to the receptionist on the 12th floor Tower One, Exchange Square and take a ticket. When your ticket number is called, you will be asked to present this letter along with your passport or another form of identification. In addition, you must bring with you any documents marked on the attached list.

There may be a waiting period between the time the interview is scheduled and the time you are actually seen on the day of your interview. We ask your patience - and ask that you do not bring your young children with you on the day of the interview.

Below is a list of things that I, the sponsor, is suppose to bring.. what if I am not at the interview? Do I still need to send to them or have my wife bring along? Chances are that I will not be able to make it due to work..

For your sponsor: original birth certificate (kinship certificate is NOT acceptable) and:
- Copy oflanding paper (IMMIOOO) or confrrmation of permanent residence form (IMM5292) /
Permanent Resident Card / Canadian passport / Canadian citizenship card.

- Copies of all pages of former & present passports with air ticketslboarding cards showing visits.

You did read the part where it says that based on the submissions you have made, your wife has failed to satisfy the requirements of IRPA, right? I would suggest that you do whatever is necessary to take the day off work, gather all the documentation requested, and be available for the interview. If you are in China, you NEED to go with her. Work cannot possibly be more important than ensuring that your spouse is found eligible to come to Canada to be reunited with you there, can it??

You are looking at the most important interview your marriage will ever face. Take this letter seriously, unless you want to do a half-baked job and spend another year or more waiting to appeal a denial.

Thanks Guys, I am not in China... I am thinking that I will send my wife all the "Sponsor" documents and she can bring with her to the interview...

They do not request that I go and only mention that "if your spouse is in Hong Kong..." if not the they may call me on the phone..

so that is what I am going to do... if my plans change I will go...

Any comments?
