Hello everyone,
I need a bit of clarification on a proposed Internship for a company in Quebec. I am in my thirties (not college/university affiliated) and presently am working in my country, however I am interested in obtaining an Internship with a company that has not participated in internships before, to add to my skill level in a specialized technical area, gain some Canadian work Experience and expand my French language knowledge. I am not quite sure how to go about starting the process because I can't find anything on the Quebec Immigration website or the CIC website which closely pertains to my particular case (age and foreign employed worker) :-[.

Would this be considered Temporary Employment i.e. with an CAQ, LMIA and job offer needed?

Please help :).

First of all welcome to this forum.

I suggest you go read a little bit about how the work permits are offered and the requirements ( Job offer,Labour Market, ..)

-Yes. You are not exempt from LMIA unless your internship is in academic purpose and in that case you go through the Co-op work permit. Other than that, all the rules apply :).

Hope you post your topic in the appropriate section next time.

Hello and thank you for the response.

Sorry, new to forum and thought I was posting in the correct section under 'Quebec Immigration', since I would have to immigrate to Quebec, temporarily, to participate in the program...please point me in the right direction where I should have posted, appreciate it.

I have read up several times on work permits but thought there would be something specific to Internships for non-college/university persons. In this case it seems that Internships and Temporary Foreign Worker are the exact same and has the same requirements.

An internship most likely won't be possible.

If you want to complete an internship in Canada, then you need to obtain a closed work permit. To obtain a closed work permit, first need to obtain a full time job offer from a Canadian employer and that employer must obtain an approved LMIA. LMIAs generally are not approved for internships since the employer cannot prove there were no Canadians available to take the role.
