So here's my plight, and I'm hoping there's some of you out there that can feel me on this one.
I'm involved with a guy in Montreal (I'm in the US), but we're not ready to get married just yet. Our relationship is serious, and we've talked a bit about who's going to move where. He's a little reluctant to leave Canada (he's a computer programmer with a great job in Montreal), and I wouldn't mind heading to Canada. I work for a large software company, who has offices all over Canada. I've seen some jobs come open in the Toronto office at times, and some of the positions are ones I would qualify for. It might be company-specific, but are there regulations on the types of jobs one can transfer to? For example, I work supporting our sales staff, which basically requires general expertise on all things sales-related, anything from supporting software the sales reps use to quote, to knowing internal policies, etc. The positions I see open in Toronto, are ones I could easily slide into with my experience, but I didn't know if there were still immigration issues companies have to go up against since I'd be going from the US to Canada, or if it's relatively easier to do such a thing, since it's all within the same company and would technically be an internal transfer? If anyone could give me some insight to this, it would be great.
I just feel stuck between a rock and a hard place - he's a computer programmer with four years' experience, but we don't know if he'd have trouble coming to the US on a work visa since he has no degree. I'm in the same position - no college degree, but decent work experience. So we're not sure where to go, and thought this might be a possible option. I would love to talk to anyone who's in the same position as me. From what I've read, if you don't have a college degree, and you're not ready to get hitched, it becomes a bit difficult to proceed. I just wish there was somewhat of a middle ground to where we could be together. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks so much!
