Hello there,

I would like to question why is it that international students have to pay for EI and CPP? If someone is not permanent in the country and is just here for study basis, why do we have to pay for CPP? It clearly says it is for Canadians Pension, and I am not a Canadian.

Secondly, now I have applied for a visitor visa from inside Canada. How can I claim for my CPP deductions and EI that they have deducted, which to me is a fraud and it should not be there for internationals. It is my hard work why would I let them deduct anything? I belive I have a right on my earnings as long as I do not come into that bracket of Canadians.

Why would you think this is fraud ? Are you accusing the Canadian government of fraudulently deducting from your salary ?

Suggest you read through all the documentation on what you can claim when leaving the country and no longer a tax resident or better still contact a professional tax adviser.

https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/tax/international-non-residents/individuals-leaving-entering-canada-non-residents/leaving-canada-emigrants.html?pedisable=true#wccyc

As for EI think of that as an insurance policy which if it were an actual commercial policy would be non refundable.

None of these types of deductions are necessarily unique to Canada and even CPP can in some circumstances be credited towards a home country pension arrangement where there is a social security agreement with Canada.

You are also enjoying the Canadian infrastructure and other things that are subsidized through taxes yet you're not being asked to pay any taxes. If you continued working on PGWP you would qualify for EI if you were laid off. Everyone pays in and those who need it use it if they are laid off. Many Canadians pay in for their whole life but never benefit.
