Hi All,

I've recently received a 3-year study permit and I am in Canada.
I have a fiancé back in our homeland who would like to join me here. We both would like to be with each other.
We are in a 5-year relationship and I have every intention of marrying her.
If I were not here in Canada right now, we would have wed on the 30th of November 2011 in our home country.

Firstly, does she qualify for the Studying in Canada: Work permits for students—Work available to your spouse or common-law partner
as per the CIC website. Unfortunately I was unable to post the direct link.

Next, if we do qualify, how would we go about applying? Please be as detailed as possible.
I'm really unsure which forms (I've read the information on the CIC website several times and I'm very confused)
to fill in and what details to supply as previously all of my other documentation has had my relationship status as single.
We'd prefer not to apply through our home country as the application/processing period could extend to 24 months, if that.

Is it possible to apply through the USA?

PLEASE ANY and ALL help would be highly appreciated

THANK YOU
C.E.M

Did you list yourself as single on your study permit? If so, then your fiance can't be considered as a common law partner and your first step would be to get married so that she can qualify as your spouse.

Hi Scylla,
THANK YOU for your response.
Yes, I am listed as "single" on my study permit.
As that is the fact.
Would it be a problem if we got a court marriage in the USA?
And then applied?
How and where would I update my records with CIC once we are married?
