Dear all,

I'll start my study in May 2023 and I actually intend to keep freelancing while studying to support my expenses while in Canada. I found this at https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/study-canada/work/work-off-campus.html:

Working outside Canada
You can work remotely for an employer outside Canada as long as you still meet the conditions of your study permit. This type of work doesn’t count towards your 20 hours per week off-campus work limit.

My clients are non-Canadian companies based in UK and Spain, so I assume that as long as I perform well in the course I attend, it should be okay if I keep working for them remotely? I want to make sure that I won't breach any study permit conditions.

Any input is appreciated.

Thanks!

You can work remotely as long as your employer has no Canadian office, presence or clients.

Hi! Are you familiar with Transcom Worldwide (North America) Inc.? Its a foreign employer and I got hired there. I report to a supervisor based in their Denver, Colorado headquarters , although the company is privately owned Swedish outsourcing company. They do hire remote US & Canada based agents. Will that be considered working remotely outside of Canada?

So you are not even in Canada if you say “working remotely outside Canada?”

Yes and I'm a student. It sucks they don't specify that. I think they do have a canadian presence or a satellite office but the one who hired me is registered to a US branch and there's a (FLSA: non-exempt) in my job offer which is like a federal law in the US about wages. So im not sure

I tried asking the company too since their main headquarters is in Sweden. And upon research they may have a satellite office here or a canadian presence
