I am a 3rd yr student and i just came back from my home country. I would like to apply for refugee status.

1. What happens to my study permit?
2. If I get denied will I have to leave immediately even if I'm still studying?
3. What will be my status after I apply
4. What are the disadvantages of applying for refugee status?

I am constantly being harassed and threatened in my neighborhood. Recently someone promised to kill me because I refuse to talk to him and date him (I am GAY). It's becoming a problem now seeing that I already went to the police and they are not doing much. If it means me not going back home i am fine with this. I am also worried about my study permit.

You can only become a refugee if there is a state policy of persecution.
