Hello everyone!

Maybe anyone had the same situation. Long story short, I have received invitation to apply under express entry. Currently I am an international student in the 1st semester of studies.

Taking into account that pr processing time on average is 6 months, what should I do with my studies? Is there an option to apply for open work permit while waiting for pr and change my status from student to worker? International tuition fees are so high that I want just to save money on second semester if there is any possible option.

Thanks in advance!

You are not eligible to apply for an open work permit because you are on a student visa. You should continue your studies and work for 20 hours per week. Good Luck!

FYI, to be eligible for a bridging open work permit you must:
  • currently be in Canada,
  • have valid status on a work permit that is due to expire within four months,
  • select “Open Work Permit” as the type of work permit when you complete your work permit application, and
  • pay the work permit processing fee and the Open Work Permit Holder fee.

If possible, take a break and don't join for 2nd semester.
Bad advice. Once you drop out of school, your study permit is automatically canceled after 90 days and this leaves you out of status in Canada. You have to have valid status in Canada in order to apply for PR from within Canada. You also have to stop working as soon as you drop out of school.

If the OP no longer wants to study, the only option would be to convert the study permit to a visitor visa. But again, once they stop studying, they also have to stop working.
