Hello,

I'm an international student who's doing software engineering technician program from a college. I'm here on a student visa, I also possess a student work permit. I have been living here in Canada for the past 3 years. I'm planning to start my web software based business and is planning to register my business as a corporation in Ontario. Basically it's a business startup as many would call it. Can I legally do this?

If you can, please answer my question with references(like links to respective webpages). Knowledge frm experience or known information is also welcome.

Thank you.

I believe a certain percentage of the company (25%?) must be Canadian owned (e.g. by a citizen or permanent resident) to legally register the corproation. However I don't know for certain.

Abl, in Canada you will never be able to register a corporation without lawyer services. So you should go to a lawyer and ask him any questions you wish.

--I cannot very well answer your query with regards to registering a business in Canada,

--but from experience I can provide my two cents that you can just register a domain, design appropriate

--work/business modules and advertise your portfolio for a while until you at least become

--a permanent resident/Citizen

--The reason for this is it takes quite some time to build a web development firm

and it's a cutthroat market and I tell you this as a co-founder of a web firm

Of course, it's an advice you may choose to reject, best luck!
