Hi

I am an international student here in Canada (Alberta) I’ll be graduating this winter 2023 semester and I just found out that I got pregnant by my boyfriend. He’s a Permanent Resident here. I am just worried and curious that can I still apply and get my PGWP? I’ll be graduating first before giving birth. I searched a lot online if I have the same situation like me but I didn’t found anyone who the same scenario like mine. Is there an insurance that will cover my pregnancy if I already graduated?

Will your health care card expires before due date? If the answer is yes, Flagpole would be an option to explore, so you have your pgwp and apply to extend your insurance coverage. Alternatively, is private insurance but can be expensive.

I’m still confused. I think my question is, Can i still apply my PGWP after I graduate even though im pregnant?

Have you lived together for 1 year or will you have lived together for 1 year by the time the baby is born. When does your health insurance end? Do you currently have a job and will you continue working right after you graduate? The father being a PR does not give you insurance coverage unless you are common law partners.

when I already my PGWP, is my pregnancy or giving birth would be cover in my alberta health insurance?

Have you live with your partner for over a year? When does your current health card expire? Did you study full-time throughout your studies? You should be able to qualify for health insurance in Alberta when you receive PGWP if you are planning on living in Alberta longterm although I’m not as familiar with healthcare in Alberta as other provinces. It is tough to say whether you will have issues getting a new health card while you wait to receive PGWP. If you have been living with your partner for over a year you would definitely qualify for heakthcare as well.

As long as you have valid status in Canada , Alberta health care will cover the cost. Note that, implied status does not count as valid stays in Alberta.

Yes, we’ve been living in together for 1 year already. But my address on my ID is still on my aunt’s address. Because I was living there first then when I met my boyfriend last year, we’ve stayed together on his apartment.

I thought it depends on your status on Canada? They said if you’re only an international student in Canada, there’s difference in your alberta health card coverage.
