SO i have been here in 07. and I am getting my PR soon.
I have been studied and working here for 5 years, after I get my PR, can I apply for citizenship after two years?
even thou the requirement was 4 years i need to be here for 3 years, but since the amount of time in stay in canada before i became PR count as half ?

1. You can count up to 1 year total (1/2 time prior to PR) and you would need 2 years after becoming a PR.

If you never left Canada for 2 years before getting your PR and not for 2 years after you got your PR, you can apply after 2 years and a day as a PR. Your time calculated: 730 days before getting PR at 1/2 value = 365 days and 730 days after getting PR = 1095 days total. You must meet those requirements on the day before you sign your citizenship application so you can apply 2 years and a day after you got your PR.

just one more question - what happens if an applicant leaves Canada after he got PR? will it affect time spent in Canada before he received PR status?

No but he will have to make up for the time that he left. Say somebody stays in Canada for 2 years straight before he gets PR. After he gets PR, he takes a vacation for a month and then comes back. This means that after he is a PR for exactly 2 years, he has spent 730 days before his PR which equals 365 and 700 days as a PR = 1065 which means he is 30 days short to apply for citizenship.

Because they only look at a 4 year window, every day that he stays, he gains one day of stay to make up for his 30 day trip but he loses a day from the start of his stay and that day because he wasn't PR yet is only worth 0.5 days so actually, he gains 0.5 days every day he stays to make up for his trip and must therefore stay 60 days to make up for this 30 day trip.

If he takes his one month vacation before getting PR, it would be better because after 2 years as a PR, he would only be short 15 days because those days he was gone before he got his PR only count at half rates and he would stay 30 days longer and then he could apply.
