Hello!

So my friend landed here in Canada last March 8, via express entry.

Now when he processed his paper June 2016, he was still single.

Comes Sept. 2016 he got married and he did not update the Canadian Embassy in Manila.

December 2016 he received his COPR as single.

January 2016 he received his passport and landed in Canada this March.

So now, the problem is that because he did not update CEM about the marriage, there is no chance he can get his wife here, right?

I am sure this was answered many times already but I still want to ask it for a friend to give him answer not just by myself but also answer from people who knows the process...

Thanks in advanced!

You're correct. He can never sponsor his wife since he failed to declare her. Technically he also committed misrepresentation by landing as a single person when he was in fact married. Technically this means CIC can revoke his PR status - however they most likely won't.

He really has two options at this point: (1) She needs to find a way to immigrate on her own through an economic immigration stream like express entry; (2) Alternatively, he needs to formally give up his PR status and reapply for PR from scratch, this time including her as a dependent.

Thank you so much for answering very quick. I'll relay this to him.

If his wife applies through an economic immigration stream, she'll of course declare her husband, would there be a problem with that later on? Like the date of marriage and the date her husband landed in Canada? they'll probably see that right? Would that matter?
