Hey guys,

Wondering if my wife comes to Canada on a visitor's visa or an OWP, should I make an INLAND application for her or the OUTLAND one?

If you're a Canadian citizen your wife won't be able to get an OWP under family class unless she first applies Inland and then sends in an application for OWP at the same time. There's currently a pilot program that is allowing applicants in family class to work after AOR which is taking approximately four months (according to CIC - it may be quicker). However, I'd expect an influx of applicants in the Inland sector because of this program, so wait times for final approval are likely to be over two years.

If your wife is from the States, I'd highly suggest doing Outland - although she wont be able to work, she'll be approved in around 8-10 months.

Thx fruitball. My wife is from India so the processing times are significantly longer. To clarify though, she would somehow have to come here (probably on a visitor visa), then we would make an inland application along with an OWP application? Or can we make an inland application while she is still in India?

Inland Application Can not be Made While She is in India. If she Visit Canada then you can Make Inland Application but Consider it Might take More Longer.

New Delhi averages around a year for outland, far less than an inland application.

Unless she already has a TRV, there is little chance of her getting one. Very few people in your situation are able to get TRVs for their spouses. CIC pretty much always considers the spouse in Canada to be a stronger tie to anything in the home country, making the applicant a high overstay risk.

Your best bet is to immediately submit an outland app.

Thanks buddy. That makes total sense.

I agree. Outland>Inland.
