Inland vs outland for my US spouse

My husband(american) and I(Canadian) are wanting to move to Canada next summer, and are debating our options. We're not too worried about being approved (married five years, one child, no criminal past) but we're wondering about whether to do it inland or outland. We'd prefer outland because it's faster.

If we do outland can my husband come into canada as a visitor with his US passport or will he have problems crossing over? And if he does come as a visitor and after 6 months hasn't been approved can he stay or will that cause problems with him getting his PR?

I would apply outland. That is what I am doing. It is much faster. I didn't have any problem getting a visitor record for 6 months when I crossed by car. If the application takes longer than 6 months u can request an extension of the visitor record, just do it 1 month before it will expire. The visitor record has no affect either way on ur PR application. It may help because u can prove u r living together, but since u have been married so long that should not be much of a problem.

is the 6 moth visitor visa something we get as we cross or does he need to apply for that? I though he could just cross over.

US citizens are visit visa exempt but if you want the option to extend this visit status later, you should ask for a visitor record when you enter.

no you just ask for the visitor record when you cross the border you do not have to pre apply.

the only way you will get a six month visitor's record is if you show proof of funds and proof of insurance for at least 6 months. Otherwise you will get a much shorter one. In my case, I had entered Canada many times, just saying I was visiting for a short amount of time. But after we got married in Vermont we told them what we intended (for me to stay in Quebec while the paperwork was being done) They gave me a VR good for about a month and a half and said that I had to come to the border **before I left Canada*** and show proof of insurance and funds and then I'd get a longer one. I did that and received 7 months at that time, though I hadn't filed my paperwork yet. They said if I needed another visitor's record after those 7 months then I would need to show proof that I had filed my paperwork. Which I showed then the next time I needed a VR
