I'm just wondering if anyone knows how long it realistically takes to get the open work permit after applying? I have read that it used to take 8 to 10 months 2 years ago, I hope the processing time has improved since then.

It takes four months if you apply with valid status in Canada. It's been like this for well over a year now.

Most people say it can take 4 months from Inland Canada however I applied in April and I recieved it in the mail in May.

So it can be anywhere between 1-4 months before you receive it.

I've been thinking about doing this for me while we wait for the process of permanent residency to go through. Do people typically try to do it online or use the forms to send everything ? I'm asking since I've already linked my stuff online. But then again, I don't see messages so the system may be broken for me...

Did you apply inland or outland?

From your previous posts, you applied outland, so you don't qualify for an OWP.
