We got married in August 2019 and I submitted a paper application to sponsor my wife's PR in December 2019. They received the application on December 19, 2019 and began the process on February 15, 2020. We have received an application number. I linked her application with my MyCIC account. This is May 2020 and there have not been any updates or movement in the application process so far. It only says application is 42% complete at this time. No Biometrics request or no Medical request so far. We have paid the Biometrics fees upfront along with the application fees. The shown estimated completion date is December 19, 2020.
Is it normal not to have any updates of movements in the application process for this long?? Anything wrong??

Hi, This is normal and the inland PR process takes time.

Have you applied for Open Work Permit along with the PR?

I want to say it's normal. Ours was received at the beginning of August 2019, and we didn't get the medical request until December 8th, 2019. And that was pre-pandemic, when the clinics and IRCC offices weren't closed. Not sure for biometrics, as they weren't required before December 2019.

Keep in mind that the completion % you see on your GCKEY profile is absolutely not reflective of the work they've put into your file. It only shows how closer you're getting to your 1 year 'deadline'.

The progress bar is just an estimation. Due to covid there are likely going to be delays and that is why you haven’t been contacted.

Did your wife take a medical exam for open work permit

No, we haven't applied for the work permit. She is already on work permit in Canada which is expiring in November 2020. We'll likely have to apply for work permit extension I think.
