Inland Spousal Sponsorship Clarification

Hi everyone, hope you all are well!

I've just got some questions about the inland spousal sponsorship process/entering Canada.

Background - I lived in Canada on an IEC from 2016 to 2018, I returned to the UK in September, once it expired. I'd been dating a guy for about five months before I left and the relationship has continued since. I proposed to him in November and he accepted. We're due to be married in March in Canada. I'm a UK citizen with a current eTA that expires in 2024.

Onto the questions, I apologise there's a few!

1. When arriving in Canada in March, do I need to state I'm getting married? I'm only over for two weeks and then intend to come back to the UK afterwards. I have a return ticket (obviously). Or is it a case of saying only what I need to if I'm taken to secondary questioning?

2. I'll be coming back to the UK in March after the wedding to continue working for two of three months to gather enough savings to return for an inland sponsorship. Can my husband start the process of being accepted as a sponsor during this time or do we need to wait until I'm back in Canada? Roughly how long does it take for him to be accepted as a sponsor?

3. When I return to Canada to start the inland process do I need to state at the border that I'm entering with the intention of being an inland sponsored spouse or do I buy a return ticket, not intending to use it, and behave as though I'm simply there on holiday? I'm from a visa exempt country so don't require a visitor visa to enter Canada for a maximum of six months.

Thank you for reading and thanking you in advance for your replies! Have a lovely day :)

1) Don't offer information that isn't asked for, but never lie.

2) If you apply inland you both must be in Canada. If you're planning on returning overseas you can always consider applying outland and coming to Canada as a visitor if the app is still in progress when you come back.

3) Same advice as #1, in addition, you cannot give the impression that you are moving to Canada or that will raise major red flags.

Hi,

I have one question regarding inland sponsorship, I was trying to find the answer in search, but no luck.

I am married to a Canadian PR holder and I am planing to move to Canada in March and apply for Inland Spousal Sponsorship (PR and OWP).

Since you have to be living with your spouse in Canada to apply for this kind of program, is it a problem that I will apply for it just a couple of days after I move to Canada? I am asking that because I saw in the application that there is also a question "How long have you been living with your spouse in Canada?"

I visited him multiple times in the past, but in march I will come and stay there to live with him, and I want to apply ASAP because I want to also be able to work, I can not just sit at home for months. So is it a problem if I write that we have been living together for just a couple of days? :))

It doesn't matter how long you've lived together because you're married. You're fine.

Hi @kcward7 , i request your help to clarify a few doubts.
I wish to bring my spouse to Canada on a visitor visa and state dual intent in the application. I have not yet filed for spousal sponsorship. However, I plan to do so when he comes here. I have been reading that TRVs get rejected.
1) Are the chances of him getting a TRV slim if dual intent is stated or should he have no problem in getting a Visitor visa?

2) Also if stating dual intent will be a problem should i keep the description vague that he is coming to visit me?

3) Can i show my funds and invitation as he does not have enough in his bank account?

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

1. There is no point in mentioning dual intent. IRCC is well aware of what it is. Chances are low regardless because he has a Canadian spouse.

2. Leave out dual intent.

3. You can but if he doesn't have enough himself, that is another negative.

Hey can i ask you just one more doubt. Do I need to get my husband's educational documents WES certified (ECA) and reference letters from employers for spousal applications just like we need them for our PR application?
