Hi guys, I am new to this forum and I haven't been able to get the answer to my question anywhere so I am posting it here hoping one of you could help me.

I am a Canadian Citizen who has applied to sponser my wife inland. I applied recently to sponser her so not expecting to hear back anytime soon from CIC on her permanant residency status. She received her OWP recently under the Pilot Program for Inland Applications. She has been in Canada for over 1 year now and has a driver's license, bank account etc to prove residency and time in Ontario.

I wanted to know if she is eligible for OHIP if she has an OWP and is married to a canadian citizen. I have read through the OHIP website but cannot determine if she meets the requirements. OHIP site talks about spouses of people with work permits who have worked in ontario for 6 months can get OHIP but what about spouses with OWPs who are married to Canadian citizens. Do they have to work 6 months or show proof of employment to get OHIP or can they just get OHIP coverage as they got OWP based on their sponsorship application and their current status in Canada.

Also she has been an international student since 2014, so does she have to wait 3 months after receiving OWP or does the time count when she came as a student

I would really appreciate any help as I haven't been able to find any infomration on this.

Thanks in advance

I don't believe that the OWP will be of any help, because it has `Type 27' written on it, which doesn't seem to satisfy the requirements for OHIP.

Unfortunately, she'll probably have to wait until she has the AIP letter, which will be ~ 18 months from the day that the Inland application was received by CIC.

Read through the INLAND 2014 thread (look for recent posts from GustavesF) to find out more about your dilemma.

I believe she would need to have a letter from her employer that states she will have at least 6 months of work.

Thanks for the info. The posts from GustavesF helped quite a bit. It looks like my wife will not be able to get OHIP till she has her AIP.
