Inland Sponsorship QC - alone or with consultant/lawyer ?

Hi everyone,

My wife and I got married in Canada this past January and were planning to do Outland sponsorship.
Due to family circumstances, she is now with me in Montreal. She was able to enter on the last day of her TRV.
We received a free consultation with an immigration lawyer and he advised us to prepare proof of her residency here (bank accounts, phone accounts,...) and to also apply for an Open Work Permit.
We went through the checklist and everything else seems straight forward and therefore I don't see the need to hire his services (asking 4-5k).
Can you please share your advice/experience ? Is doing it with a lawyer faster/safer ? What happens if there is an error in the application ?

I submitted the inland spousal sponsorship (5+ years ago) with the help of a consultant and I did my MIL 's PGP application myself.

Doing it with a lawyer is not faster. Applications are processed the same way regardless of who (Sponsor/PA or using a lawyer) prepare it.
Advantage of a lawyer is that hopefully he/she is experinced with the process and would make less mistake.
If there is an error in the application, if it's determined as incomplete, they could returned the application. OR if it's an intentional error to mislead IRCC, then it's a misrepresentation. This is the same regardless of who prepared the application. The sponsor and PA are responsible.

Most of us that did our own applications here would double/triple check everything before submitting the application to avoid any error.

I'm not in Quebec, but I did our application myself. As YVR123 said - you just have to double/triple check everything thoroughly, and make sure everything is signed and included, etc. But the lawyer we talked to was charging $7,500, and we'd still have to fill in the information ourselves, so it was well worth it for me.
