Hi,
I'm currently on an IEC visa due to expire at the end of August. My common-law partner and I (he is a Canadian citizen) have put in an application for an open work permit and also an inland family sponsorship visa application.
My question is, if I haven't heard back from either of these by the time my current visa expires, do I have to leave the country while it is being processed?
Obviously I wouldn't be able to work while it's expired but can I stay as a visitor without putting in a visitor visa application?

Any info would be great, I've been trolling the internet for hours looking for an answer. :)

For Inland sponsorship..........if you submit the inland sponsorship with application for Open Work Permit (OWP)........IRCC will send acknowledgement of receipt for a complete application package in 6 weeks.......it takes about 4 months to approve OWP........with OWP you may have implied status......and the sponsorship takes 12months to complete process, may take less or more.......its a wait game.

For inland sponsorship........the PA is advised not to travel out of Canada while the application is been processed as there is no guarantee of re-entry......and if for whatever reason you are not allowed re-entry, the inland sponsorship application may be refused.

So, you should be getting an email - AOR- from IRCC before your visa expires.
As said previously, since you applied for OWP with your PR application, you have "implied status" until a decision is made, that means that if your application is complete and everything goes ok, you dont have to leave the country or extend your visitor visa even though your visa expires in the process.

Check your emails regularly, as if for any reason you don't have any email from IRCC in the next 2 months, which is very unlikely, just contact them to check evrything is ok.

The thing is that if you missed a fee or a document and the file is returned, then you lose your implied status and will have to extend your stay as a visitor.

Hope its clear
