Hi there,

I am an inland sponsor PR applicant (still in progress - sponsor received AOR). My study permit expires soon and i want to extend my study permit by enrolling in new course - Healthcare assistant.

My question is: while i have PR application in progress, is it safe to apply for a study permit application ? since it counts as dual intent. Is this a risky move. I am genuinely seeking help, i already paid the deposit for a new course, received LOA.

Please advice. Thank you.

Just clarifying does your spouse have PR already? If so as already specified apply for an OWP because you both need PAL and an approved study permit to study which may take a long time. Also why would you not wait until you have PR to study as a domestic student?

Thank you for asking. yes, spouse has PR already. I am in process of taking admission to college, it is taking longer than expected. We are in process currently

If i apply for OWP and then apply for study permit, will OWP gets cancelled since student can not work full time ? will this not confuse officer that a person has OWP and SP ?

I dont want to to wait for PR since the PR timeline is 28 months i.e 2 years and i want to earn a certification and be able to start a job.

Are you in Quebec? 28 months seems short for Quebec so assume you may be in another province.

no, not in Quebec
Most applications take under a year not 28 months. There seems to have been something that has skewed the posted processing time. Would suggest looking at processing for applications with a similar profile on this forum for a more realistic processing time estimate.
