Hello everyone,

I have a few questions regarding the inland PR process.

1 - I understand that once I am approved as the sponsor (which takes about 40 days according to the CIC website), my wife can apply for an open work permit. Now I know that my wife should not leave the country during the inland PR process, but if she is approved for the open work permit AND she found a job, would that change anything in regards to her being able to come in and out of Canada? Does a temporary resident visa get issued along with the work permit that would allow her to leave Canada for a brief period and then come back in without screwing anything up in the inland PR process?

2 - I was looking at the outland PR police certificate instructions and they differ from the inland police certificate instructions. For outland, there are a bunch of documents and photocopies of documents that you need to send in to the Malaysian embassy. Whereas if I look at Appendix A for the inland process, and we would need to do is fill out Appendix A and send it to Vegreville and then they will send it to Malaysia? I'm a little confused as to how the police certificate process works with the inland process.

3 - Is it possible to be approved as a sponsor while still missing some documents for the inland PR process? Example: Let's say we send everything in except for the police certificate, would they hold the application until we received the police certificate or would they be able to approve me as a sponsor while still missing this particular document?

Your help is GREATLY appreciated!!!

You're confusing the inland and outland processes. First stage for outland is 43 days. First stage for inland is 6 months. It will take approximately six months before your wife will qualify for an open work permit.

if u dun send in the police certificate.. guess they wouldnt give AIP (approval in principal) nor the OWP (open work permit), cos i only got AIP + OWP after I submitted on request by CIC.

I can help with the first question. Unfortunately the Open Work Permit won't change anything with regards to your wife having to remain in Canada. An open work permit is just that - it allows you to work. It doesn't guarantee re-entry into Canada (and no - a TRV is not issued along with the OWP). She will have to remain in Canada if she wants to ensure smooth sailing for the inland application.
