Inland or Outland application?

My common-law spouse will be sponsoring me and we are completely confused by the proccess.

A bit about my background:
I studied in Canada from 2009-2013. Worked from 2013-2016, at which point my work permit expired and I was unable to get an extension. My partner and I have been together since 2010 and living together since 2012 (but only sharing expenses since 2014). We are currently engaged to be married but have not set a date (most likely 2018 at earliest, realistically 2019). We're hoping to apply under common-law sponsorship but are finding it quite difficult in choosing inland vs outland.

I currently have no status in Canada and will arrive as a temporary resident visitor next week, after which my visitors visa will expire in December this year.

Should I apply for an inland PRV upon arrival with an extension of my stay as a worker? Or should I apply outland? My visa office location is Trinidad and Tobago.

Since you need a visa to get into Canada, if you want to apply inland you should be confident that you will not have to leave Canada for the duration of processing. This is because if you are not let back in, your application will be over. If you have a multiple-entry TRV, that should be safe enough, though there is no guarantee the border officials will let you back in.
If you want to travel back to your home country, I would apply outland. You can still visit Canada with your TRV, and then apply to extend your stay.
