Dear wise crowd,
I'm new to this forum and overwhelmed by the tons of information, everyone is helping everyone, that's great (although I don't get all the abbreviations.. anyone's keeping a list??). I'm gonna give my question a try as I'm stuck myself in thinking in circles night after night. Here goes the story. I (Mrs., 33, Dutch) am currently living and working in the Netherlands, while I have a long-distance relationship with my Canadian mr. S. since June 2014. We travel back-n-forth ever since between NLs, Canada and holiday destinations.. and we just got married last week in Canada, wohoo superexciting. Now i'm back home in Netherlands and doubting where/when/how to apply for my permanent residence visa via a spousal sponsorship application. We both seem to have good records for a smooth case: no police records, both good jobs, degrees, i've lived in Canada before (completed an MA-degree at a Canadian University in 2009) etc. So.. yeah.. inland... outland... that's the question?? I got a good job going in the Netherlands which I can keep until at least July, but my husband and i are getting impatient... Inland would mean i'd give up my job, leave Netherlands in April 2016, and start my application in Canada in May 2016 or so. The plus side would be: open work permit would hopefully be soon given to me which would mean an unemployed summer, but a job soon after. Downside: travelling out to see my family or for leisure is not recommended .. long waiting times...
Then the outland option. Vienna seems much faster, and the idea of being able to travel in/out Canada puts me more at ease than the feeling of being 'stuck' not knowing when I can go somewhere. Plus I can pretty much start as soon as my husband receives our marriage certificate... right? Downside would be then that i'd have to wait to apply for an open work permit .. or is that something I can also send a long with an outland application? Other possible downside is not knowing how long it takes.. meanwhile I can't get on his health benefit programme and so on...
Would be great if I could brainstorm a bit with people here or other fellow-Dutchies with similar cases! Thnkssssss wise crowd! Hope i can sleep better soon...
