Hello,

My partner and I have submitted our application for spousal sponsorship under the family class, common-law. Our application was received and signed for at the correct address for courier at CPC Mississauga on April 17th, 2019 by S Wong.

I (the Principal Applicant) currently have an Open Work Permit which expires May 26th 2019. I understand that I am eligible for a new Open Work Permit under the ongoing pilot program while we wait for our application to be completed, as long as I am in status when the application is received.

Could somebody please specify “received”? Is this when the application is delivered and signed for (April 17th), or is this when the application has been processed and an Acknowledgement of Receipt (AOR) has been sent by email to the applicants?

If it is the latter, I realize that I must change my status to a visitor before my work permit expires in 16 days, to remain in status and be eligible for the Open Work Permit Pilot Program. Am I able to complete, pay the fees and send the applicable application with an emergency cover letter to expedite the application to change status to a visitor in order to remain in status and to remain eligible?

Any responses are greatly appreciated.

It goes by the date the app was delivered.

I suggest you apply for a visitor extension anyways, as a back up in case your PR/OWP app is returned. Not sure what you mean by "emergency cover letter". There is no emergency and there is no expediting.
