Hi all

I'm currently in Canada as a visitor, after recently applying for PR under the Spouse or Common Law Partner in Canada Class.

I realise I'm going to have quite the wait until I get my OWP (especially with COVID). Whilst I'm going to be dependent on my partner's income, I still want to generate some form of income (however little), even just to keep myself occupied!

To that end I've been considering trying to find a job in the UK which I can perform remotely from Canada. A few ideas spring to mind, like online after-hours customer service, project work which doesn't require me to work on UK time (I have a Master's in Aero Engineering), or even registering a business in the UK to allow me to do some freelance work, whatever that might be (though obviously not in Canada).

Does anybody have any experience doing this or know anyone who does? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. My main questions are about the tax implications surrounding this type of work, and any other ideas for generating income.

Thanks!!

Make sure the business isn't engaged in any business in Canada and has no Canadian customers / clients.

Whe you file taxes in Canada, you will need to file based on your worldwide income. So you will declare both what you earned by working remotely plus anything you earned in Canada once the OWP is approved and you start working here.
