Hi All - looking through this forum has been very helpful but I have a question that seems to be hard to answer, even by CIC call centre agents.
I am planning to sponsor my common-law spouse to remain in Canada. He is currently on a student visa and has been living in Canada for over 9 years. I have been in a relationship with him for over 5 years and living together for well over 2 years. Sounds like an "easy case" to prove common-law and apply inland, however....
The issue is his Taiwanese passport expires soon and Taiwan will NOT issue him an additional travel document as he is required to return to Taiwan to perform compulsory military service (except perhaps a short travel document in order to travel home). What method, if any, can we use to apply for him to remain in Canada legally while he awaits his PR outcome?
