Inland commom law-pilot program for OWP

Hi everyone,

I have a question about the pilot program for inland applicants.
I understand that now we can get OWP while waiting for the decision.
I am not just trying to hand in my application before the year end. I have everything ready, I am now just waiting for my Police check from New Westminster Police Station in BC.
The lady in the station told me that I had to wait for2- 3 weeks to get my police certificate.
That means I won't be able to hand in my app until the end of Oct.
I am worried because I am not quite too sure how the pilot program works. I understand it sometimes takes 2-3 months before applicants receive AOR. Does that mean even if I hand in my app within 2015 ( eg, in Nov or Dec), there is still a risk that I might not meet the deadline for the one year pilot program?

Thank you for anyone who can provide any insights!

The countdown starts from the date CIC receives your application, so if you sent it in October / November you should get the OWP by ~March. Make sure all the forms are signed and up to date so your application won't get returned.

Thank you Mary, Is the date CIC received my app the same as AOR date?

It should be, the usual practice is that they stamp your application package with a date it was received and then, sometimes after a month and sometimes never (don't expect much consistency in this process) you'll get the AOR.

If you mailed your application to CIC, you may wish to use a courier service that requires a signature when delivered, gives you a delivery confirmation and/or allows you to track your package. Please note that there may be a delay between the date CIC physically receives your application and the date it is opened. CIC cannot confirm that your application package has been received until it has been opened in our offices.

The copied the above paragraph from CIC website...
Does the countdown start when they "physically" receive my mail or when they open it?

Thank you guys!

As I said, the will most likely stamp your app on the date they get it by mail - yes, it's better to send it by registered mail so you can track it yourself -I sent mine on September 9th, they received it on the 11th and I got the AOR a month later, saying it was received on the 11th of Sept.

Good to know they'll stamp my package with a date :)
I started gathering all the docs in July and encountered numerous issues ( my spouse's missing divorce papers, delay in getting my police certificate in my home country etc...),at this points, I just really want to hand in my app and meet the deadline for the pilot program and get some mental peace... :'(
Thank you very much Marylou!

No worries, good luck! And keep in mind to check if the forms aren't outdated. Since you've filled some out in June, make sure the date on the bottom of the form is the same as the date on the online forms on the cic website.

Unless CIC has specifically asked you for the New West police check, send in your application ASAP!

You don't need a police check from Canada.

Oh...and make sure that you pay the correct amount for the OWP, which is $255...NOT $155. People that paid the wrong amount are having their OWP applications returned.

Good luck!

Thank you Panga...
The immigration consultant I am using told me I need to get one..and I am see conflicting info regarding finger prints and police check requirements..I am really confused. I called CIC call centre today and the agent told me to FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS and sent me this:

Police certificates
In general, if you want to immigrate to Canada, you and your family members* must include a police certificate** with your application.
Some countries may ask you to provide fingerprints, photos or a letter from Canadian immigration authorities explaining why you need a police certificate.
For more information on police certificates, please:
Verify the section Police Certificates of the instruction Guide that comes with your application kit, and
Visit our website.
*A family member is a spouse, common-law partner, dependent child or dependent child of a dependent child.
**If you cannot get a police certificate, you must send a written explanation with your application and an original letter from the police authorities confirming that they will not issue a certificate.

Sounds like your immigration consultant is not very good. ;)

How to get a police certificate - Canada

Do I need to provide a Police Certificate with my Application for Permanent Residence? No

The Canadian visa office will tell you if you need a Canadian criminal record check while your application is being processed.

Depending on which country, or countries, you need a police clearance from will determine whether or not you need to actually submit fingerprints (typically on an FBI FD-285 (or is it 258?) card. Some countries do not require fingerprints, while others (perhaps most) do.

I have already had my Criminal check done in China, the Police Station did not ask for finger prints.
So if my understanding is correct..I don't need to submit Canadian criminal check if I'm applying within Canada, and the fingerprints are actually for the Police/ relevant authorities OUTSIDE Canada..

YES! Even if you were applying outside of Canada, you do NOT need a police check from Canada unless CIC specifically asks you for one.

Fire your immigration consultant.
