Well, I found out the reason for delay with mine. I have non-accompanying children, and even though they are not moving to Canada, I was required to list them on my application and they had to meet the medical requirements. I traveled to Pittsburgh in July 2013 and my three youngest were examined by a CIC panel physician, but my oldest child who was 19 at the time refused to comply.

After some communication both ways, CIC agreed as of March 2014 to exclude my oldest child from the medical requirement.

Then I received a letter from CIC requesting I be re-examined because too much time had passed since my first medical (Nov 2012), so I obtained that in May 2014, and I have been waiting ever since.

The call centre agent, who was very nice and informative, told me the only thing on my file that appears to be missing has to do with my children as they are waiting for Los Angeles to provide them this information. What I don't know is did LA forget to pass the medical results back to Vegreville? At the time their medical results were fine and less than a year old, but now they are not, and I wonder if they are going to require I have my three children who are not exempt re-examined? I haven't heard from Los Angeles either way on this. The CIC call centre agent told me I should receive communication from them within the next couple weeks, but if I wanted to contact L.A., she would provide me their contact information (which is just an email address - no phone number).

I can see this dragging out where I have to get them re-examined, and by the time they provide this, I will need to submit to a third examination, and as long as the delays are taking, this cycle will never end. I hope I am wrong!

Has anyone else had this kind of issue with medical exams for non-accompanying children and the timing of medical exams and incessant need to submit to exhaustive re-examinations?
Because they are non accompanying, they won't need to have another medical. They only need to be examined initially to comply with the requirements. If I had to guess I would say this is something to do with excluding the eldest as no office is in charge of ensuring medical information is received except the panel physician. With unaccompanying children the wait can be mundane, to say the least.

Maybe they are ready to make a decision on his application and don't want to take the fee for the permit? I really don't know but if you have been waiting that long for a decision perhaps that is the reason.
Alura71 thanks for giving positive response as we are now in a situation which both of us felt so depress and caused us a lot of thinking (negative). I just pray that this maybe the reason for the delay of the renewal of my husband OWP, that soon we will be hearing a positive response from CIC. What really gives us a more depressing feeling is not even the call center agent can't explain the "hold" status on my husband renewal of OWP that even for them this is the first time they have seen it. We tried to call weekly but they all have the same responses "we don't know, just wait".

Still waiting here too. I was one of those who was not given PR in 2014 because they had run out of their "allotment" for the year. 23 days into January and nothing has changed. What's worse is that CIC has yet to respond to requests for info from our MP's office. Those requests were made the first week of January and again the next week. I don't understand how they can get away with that.

At this point I am only 6 weeks from my OWP expiring. I don't want to spend another $155 for a renewal, but I'm not sure I have a choice. What a waste.

Any advice here? I'm at a loss.

Sorry that you haven't landed already before your OWP expires. That said, I don't think you have much of a choice in the matter. You need to submit an extension of OWP or a new OWP to keep working or ,if not, at least keep your status legal. If you are not working, you could always apply for a visitor's extension, $75, instead of $150.

Same here. We are still waiting and we my husband also has an unaccompanying dependent. They both went for medical examinations (my husband twice) and I was told three months ago and again last week that everything was complete. Only a decision is missing. I don't believe they need such a long time for looking at the file

Anyways, my husband work permit expired a few days ago but we did not renewed it because he is not working. I am in trouble?, is he out of status right now? I really don't want any complications now!!! Any help will be appreciated!!

Thanks

Yes, he is out of status right now, but it is doubtful that he will have any issues. If you don't want to renew the work permit, then you can always send in an application to renew his status. That can be done if his permit expired within the last 90 days. It is really up to you and how comfortable you feel just leaving things as is. The odds of him getting into trouble this far into the game over something like status has got to be astronomically high.

I believe the form we need to fill out is IMM5710E, "Application to Change Conditions, Extend My Stay or Remain in Canada as a Worker". I think it is the same form I had to fill out when I first applied for the OWP. Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/extend-worker.asp

I'm not so worried about the work permit expiring since it shouldn't be more than a few days between expiration and landing interview. However I am worried about going out of status, so like it or not I plan to shell out the $150. Such a waste of money, but we are too close now and I just can't risk more delays.

One question though. If I pay for the extension and then end up getting landed before the old OWP expired, can I get a refund of that $150?

In theory, yes. I read somewhere that if they do not process your OWP renewal application because the decision was made and you landed, they will refund your OWP application fee for the unprocessed application.

I have an update on the non-accompanying children's medicals. Based on the advice of the call centre agent, I contacted L.A. via email, and I was very pleasantly surprised to get a response the next day!

Here's what they said (on official government of Canada letterhead):

Dear Sir,

We completed our examination of your USA dependents (names redacted) in February 2014. We sent an email advising that your USA dependents had met the requirements to the Vegreville office on February 6, 2014. They all passed their medical examinations, however, the results are expired but since they are non-accompanying this should not be an issue.

You should follow-up on this matter with the Vegreville office.

Regards

Okay.... so they sent the info to Vegreville almost a year ago, but it's the only piece of information missing! I tried to call the call centre today but now get the message after 5 minutes of checking the application status that they cannot forward me to an agent at this time. Other than calling the call centre repeatedly until I get someone, how do I let CIC know that they should already have the information from L.A. that they are waiting for (and have since last February)?

I just got off the phone with a CIC call centre agent on my third attempt to get through today. This one informed me:

1) He has no process to notify Vegreville that they already have this information.

2) I should assume despite what the previous call centre agent told me that Vegreville actually has the information from Los Angeles.

3) All that Vegreville needs now is more time to complete the application.

4) All I can do is wait.

So, I am left with a lingering feeling that Vegreville doesn't know that L.A. gave them the information last February, and that the current state of things will continue to remain unchanged indefinitely. I would love to believe that they do have this information and that the previous agent was mistaken and that the application will be completed soon. I would love to believe I have a million dollars in my chequing account too.

I will call back in a month and see what the next agent I talk to says.

Got some terrific news yesterday. I received an email from CIC stating they had completed processing of my application, and asking me to pay the $490 RPRF fee. A few hours later I got another email stating my landing interview would be February 18th. Finally after 28 months it is almost over!
