Hi all,

I applied for permanent residency within Canada in November 2011.
I have been on a work permit (multiple ones) since I moved to Canada in Jan 2010.
I will now have my landing interview on November 22.
I have been reading contracting posts about getting a SIN number.
Basically, here's my issue.
I got an offer for the job of my dreams. This job is supposed to start on November
26th (they need me asap).
I thought it would be fine because I had heard that I can get my new SIN on the
same day as my landing interview with my confirmation of Permanent Residency.
I have now read that if I applied inland, I need to wait for the PR card to get a new
SIN.

My current SIN starts with a 9. I have been working for a company on a work permit
for almost 3 years now.

Could I change company and work for a new employer with my current SIN (which is
valid until April) and the COPR while I wait for my PR card and to get a new SIN ?

Is there no way to get a new SIN with just my COPR ??

Please help me.

On the Service Canada website, see http://www.servicecanada.gc.ca/eng/sin/apply/proof.shtml it says that the only valid PR document if your application is inland is a PR card. IMO you should talk to Service Canada or call CIC, preferably both and ask what you should do in this situation.

To anybody who might be interested:
I called CIC and I was told that you CAN get your new SIN on the spot after you get the COPR even if you applied inland,
as long as you are not from a country that requires a visa counterfoil

That is good news for you and good to know. Let us know how it goes with the SIN after you land :)
