So for those that were sponsored inland...i heard that if you leave Canada, it could be difficult to get another TRV to come back, and therefore, the application would be abandoned if you cannot make it back...

My question is..if one has a US visa...and a single entry TRV, that later got extended with a visitor record...can one leave Canada, to say, Pakistan, and then fly to the US, and re-enter Canada on the visitor record through a land border? How about the same with an Open Work Permit?

Good chance that you will be caught, as you will have a Pakistani entrance and exit stamp in your passport.
 
with a single entery it is my understanding that you are allowed to enter the us and re-enter Canada on the same visa. However if you leave the US or Canada to another country and want to come back it would be considered to be an additional entery and you would therefore need multiple entry visa and depending on your situation may also need one for the US.

Im no expert but from what Iv read this is how I understand it.
