Initial Assessment

When I raised a webform requesting the status of my application, I received the following reply, ‘ Currently your application remains in a queue for initial assessment with a Visa Officer’.

AOR - 3rd April 2019
MEP - 14th May 2019
Biometrics - 24th May 2019

1. What happens in an initial assessment?
2. How long does it take to move from initial assessment to PPR?

Edit: Guys I am being patient ( I understand it’s only over 90days) and I think you guys haven’t gotten my question.

I still don’t understand what my initial assessment is? ( That’s the title of my thread ). Forget the second question. I just want to know what happens in an initial assessment, so anyone who has an idea about it can let me know Thanks in advance.

Hi Jordan,

I understand that the wait for PPR can be frustrating. The general trend I've noticed over the past year is there are two major tranches where applications receive PPR.

Approximately 60-90 days after AOR there's about 10-15% of applications that receive PPR. What's special about these applications? No one really knows but the most believable speculations are - specific NOCs, country of residence, PNP.

Then about 60-70% more applications receive PPR between 5-7 months of AOR.

The remaining 15ish% would receive PPRs anywhere between 4 months to 2 years (sadly some applications get stuck in review required after some documents are not found satisfactory by a visa officer)

(The above data is based on my experience reading posts for the last 1 year and chatting with applicants and data from myimmitracker)

Now, based on the reply you received, I feel that you would not be in the lucky 10-15%. But it has been only 90 days since your AOR. I'm sitting at 170 days past AOR and I know people who've applied in December who are still waiting at well over 230 days past AOR. There may still be a long time for you to wait (you may be lucky and get a PPR in the next week too) the honest answer is, no one on this forum or @ CIC can tell you when your application will be approved.

The only way to keep your sanity is not worry too much, keep yourself busy with work/hobbies or upskill yourself by doing courses that will help you get employment soon after landing in Canada.

(An unrelated side request would be to post questions like this one in the April AOR thread where your peers will surely help you, while there's an obvious urge to post every question in a new thread it causes too many duplicates of the same question if everyone posts a new thread for every query.)

Keep in mind average processing time is 6 months and lately it's been slow. You are only 3 months in so just be patient.

I tried finding a thread in relation to initial assessment but in vain! Also, I did think of submitting it in my AOR group but then I thought if anyone else has gone through these stages they would clarify it better. Sorry about that!

I’m being patient and not worried. My main question is about initial assessment.

Hi, I understand and I’m well aware of that but, my main question is about the initial assessment. I don’t know what that means so wanted to clarify and check if anyone knows about it.
