Hi,
I am about to file immigration papers for my spouse living abroad. While paying online i see fees for different categories,

Sponsorship application (per application) : $75.00
Principal applicant $475.00
Principal applicant, if less than 22 years of age and not a spouse or common-law partner (including a dependent child of the sponsor, a child to be adopted and an orphaned brother, sister, niece, nephew, or grandchild) $75.00
A family member of the principal applicant who is 22 years of age or older, or is less than 22 years of age and is a spouse or common-law partner $550.00
A family member of the principal applicant who is less than 22 years of age and is not a spouse or common-law partner $150.00
Right of Permanent Residence Fee $490.00

I myself is a Canadian citizen and is going to apply for my wife sponsorship. I am not sure which options to select for initial application filing.

Thanks.

A family member of the principal applicant who is 22 years of age or older, or is less than 22 years of age and is a spouse or common-law partner $550.00

Hmmmm I am not sure whether or not your spouse is bringing a dependant too, but it looks like you're confusing the terminologies...?

Basically, you are the sponsor.

The person you are sponsoring, is called "principal applicant".

Assuming you're only sponsoring your spouse, then you have to pay $1040, exactly the same amount that RajaJi mentioned...

I am sponsoring only my spouse just like you are, and I paid $1040, and so did many others on this forum with the exact same situation as we ;).

Let's dissect the following statement:

A family member of the principal applicant who is 22 years of age or older, or is less than 22 years of age and is a spouse or common-law partner
A family member of the principal applicant who is 22 years of age or older ---> doesn't apply, since your spouse is not carrying anyone else but herself

or is less than 22 years of age and is a spouse or common-law partner ---> your spouse is not carrying a spouse or a common law partner to Canada (she already has you, her sponsor, who lives in Canada, and obviously you're not sponsoring yourself), and therefore this statement doesn't apply either.

So the whole condition in order for you to have to pay $550 doesn't apply at all :)

I'm glad nustian asked this question as I am also a bit confused. I am the PA and my 11 year old son will be accompanying me but which fess do I pay now? Here is the list of the fees I was told I would have to pay in total:

Sponsorship Application - $ 75
Principal Applicant (PA)- $475
PA's family member (under 22) $150
Permanent Resident Card Fee $ 50 (x2) total $100
Right of Permanent Residence Fee $490 (x2) total $980

Is this correct? I assume the Permanent Resident Card and the Permenant Resident Fee both have to be paid twice since my son will accompanying me. Is that Correct? Also, do I have to pay the $100 (PR card fee for me and my son) with the rest of the fees or is that paid later? Thanks in advance!!

Hi buffy,

I wonder what category you're applying under...?

The spousal sponsorship program doesn't seem to include any fees for the PR card...take a look at the two fee tables:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/3900ETOC.asp#pay-fee

Under the spousal sponsorship category, the total that you need to pay (it's up to you to decide whether YOU will be making the payment, or the sponsor. I believe it's usually the sponsor that pays though...)

PROCESSING FEES
Sponsor: $75
Principal applicant (you, buffy): $475
Your son: $150

RIGHT OF PERMANENT RESIDENCE FEES
Sponsor: $0 (obviously...)
Principal applicant (you, buffy): $490
Your son: $0 (according to the link I pasted above, "Dependent children are exempt from paying the Right of Permanent Residence fee.")

Total: CAD 1190

Yes, you are correct. I am applying under spousal. That just made my life a whole lot less stressful if that is the case!! Can anyone else verify is the 1190 would be the correct amount to pay? My wife is coming to visit tomorrow and i will be sending money back with her to Canada to pay the fees. I will print out that webpage though. Thanks and if anyone else can co firm this it would be appreciated!!

Hi buffy,

While I'm 100% sure that my calculation is correct, let's wait for other people's replies, just in case...! ;)

I can understand why you're a lot less stressful now.....you thought you had to pay CAD 1780, didn't you...? ;)

But yeah, don't worry, you get to keep the $590 that you thought you'd have to waste.....errr, I mean, pay... ;D
