Hi friends,

I was asked for medicals, PCC, and passport on 5th March 2014, and I have sent these on 28th March, status changed to DM on 4th April, and got my passport with visa on 14th April. My marital status is single in the application as I filed it in Nov'13.

However, I got married on 7th March'14 but didn't inform CIC immediately as I had to get my legal marriage certificate. I got it on 14th April'14, the same day I received my passport.

I'm going to inform CIC about my marriage and provide the certificate as proof now. I would like to know in what way is this going to impact the process?

My COPR form shows me as Single and if I land in Canada with that, will that be a problem?
As I'm married now, will I be getting a new COPR form or Can I use the current one?

Also we have to start the process for my Spouse's visa...what is the best way to do? after I land in Canada & get a job (or) can we apply now itself?

Regards,
psn

You can't land in Canada using the visa you have now. If you land using the visa you have now, two things will happen: (1) you will never be able to sponsor your wife; (2) if CIC finds out you were married rather than single when you landed they could make a finding of misrepresentation and revoke your PR status.

Since you got married before landing, you only have one option with regards to next steps. You must return your CORP/visa to the visa office and let them know you got married. You must then submit all of the required paperwork (including police checks, etc.) to add you wife to your application. Once CIC has asssessed your wife and approved her for PR as well, both of you will be reissued a new visa/CORP which you can then use to land in Canada.

So yes - it will delay your landing. But you have no choice since you are now married.

Thanks Skylla for your quick reply.

So I don't have a choice now other than informing them abt marriage immediately and returning the COPR. But I'm confused on where to start the process...should I return the visa & copr only when they ask for it after informing abt marriage?

How should I approach the embassy now? My Visa office is New Delhi India.
CIC has an enquiry link where we are supposed to inform of any changes. So should I first inform them about my marriage and ask for next steps?

Please advice...

Don't send them your COPR and passport until they ask for it. Send them email and may be fax too advising about the change in your circumstances, they then will advise you accordingly
