Information on Spouse dependent Visa

Hi,

I am currently living in US on work permit. I am in the verge of losing my job. I want to join my husband as dependent in Canada who is on temporary work permit.
I already hold a valid Visitor Visa(applied by me for tourism purpose). Is that enough to a dependent? How to convert Visitor Visa to dependent Visa and be eligible for insurance. I am not planning to work in Canada.

You are banned from traveling to Canada as a visitor right now. The ban is currently in place until June 30th. Visitors generally also do not qualify for health coverage in Canada. If your husband has a skilled job, you can apply for an OWP based on his permit but given the pandemic, expect delays in processing.

Thank you for letting me know. I am seeing an exemption in the Canada travel restriction which says the below. How about the possibility of getting the letter from IRCC or from Consular?

Reuniting with an immediate family member who lives in Canada but is not a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
To board your flight to Canada, you must

• have written authorization from the Government of Canada to fly to Canada
  • To get the authorization, emailIRCC at IRCC.COVID-TravelExemptions-Exemptionsdevoyage-COVID.IRCC@cic.gc.ca. We’ll contact you within 48 hours of getting your email and tell you what to do next.
  • You can also contact the nearest Government of Canada office abroad to request an authorization.
