See: http://www.cic.gc.ca/manuals-guides/english/cp/cp09e.pdf page 14 outlines the steps to be taken. You have to have another countries citizenship though.

my friend is a canadian citizen but has not had valid passport for a while now and is concerned that she may have revoked her citizenship by mistake ?? any information would help?
