Indian Passport with both Canada & USA Visitor Visa Question

Hi guys,

My parents with Indian passport have both Canada & USA visitor's visa as follows.

Canada : 5 years multiple entry
USA : 10 years multiple entry

We live in Vancouver and cross border every month for shopping and day trips.

Can I take my parents to visit USA based on their USA visitor visa and come back like I do) I am PR of Canada). Specifically will my parent have any trouble coming back to Canada, as they have multiple entry visitor visa for Canada too. ????

Any clarifications will be appreciated.

HI,

this is absolutely OK and there should be no problem. Remember same rules still applies, they must show their intention to leave Canada at the end of their visit. (i carry a copy of their return ticket back home just in case they are asked by either US or CA)

Thanks buddy. So you are saying that you know someone do the same without any problem, right ?

Also, Is it possible for my parents to stay in Canada for TOTAL more than 6 months by traveling to USA for 24 hours or more (say for holiday) ??? I know as a visitor you are only allowed to stay for 6 months max. consecutive. So just trying to figure out how to legally extend their stay past first 6 months, if they want to stay for few more months.

In short, Do 6 months period resets if you visit USA for 24 hours or more and come back to Canada ?? Or not really ??

In theory it is possible but everytime they enter Canada it is logged. You are also not guarnteed to get a 6 month stay everytime you cross the boarder. Also, the boarder agent could become suspicious that your parents are living in Canada and not visiting and deny entry.

For a short 1-2 day they won't re stamp and the original date remains ( this even happened for a 7 day trip for my folks back in 2001 )
But there are some amateur officers who will simply stamp it too, does't matter - they get six more months

We have been doing this with my mother in law from China in the past few months without any problems. Each time when we return to Canada, the officer would ask me when she would be returning to China, how we are related and the value of her shopping. The 6 months period doesn't resets, though.

Your parents are very lucky to have a 10 year US visa. My mother in law only got a one year visa.

I think everyone's comment is very relevant and true and a lot depends on the CBSA officer. My parents usually stay here for not more than 2months but get a 6months stamps on their passports and go back and forth to the states without any issues.

I am not sure if the 6months period resets but i doubt it as they will not issue you a new stamp except the initial 6months lapses and like mentioned in one the replies, the CBSA can pretty much do anything if they have any suspicion i.e. reduce the original validity etc

Vsitor Visa Sucess chances

Hi All

I am applying for a visitor visa to Canada, what are things that i need to be careful about as i am visiting a friend and he is ready to give me a invitation letter.
1. I am single
2.I have my own business with my dad
3.I have visited (UK and Malaysia) for work purpose previously.

What would be chances for my success and what are things that i should be careful about?????
