Hi as I said earlier I received ppr on 14 jan.
Now I am faced with the passport issue.
In all our indian passports the surname slot is empty the surname is added in the given name slot.
In mine the given name starts with the surname followed by my full name and in my wifes and daughters the surname is mentioned after their first name.
Will this be a problem. This is a general standard with indian passports my booklets are the same and I have got canadian visitor visa earlier on the same passport and also many other countries.
According to ppr they were specific about surname being printed in the surname slot.
Please friends advise .... is it ok should I send it as it is ...or what to do... Pls friends ....pls advise on how to go about solving this issue ...
Thanks a lot
Best regards
Kash.

I dont know if there is any problem for sending the passport as is.
But I also received the same instructions with my PPR. To be on the safer side, we got it coreected.
We went to the Indian Cosulate and made an affidavit to rearrange the names. This was submitted to Empost with the necessary forms (got the forms from the Information Counter at Indian Consulate), 1 Passport Photo and Passport. The Consulate makes an endorsement on the first page of the passport and passport is returned in 10 days.

Hi,

As you mentioned , this problem is very common for several Indian Passport holders. It is not so difficult to get it "corrected" at your Passport office or Embassy/consulate if you are abroad. Usually within a day or two it can be done.

Getting a correction on the surnames for you and family at this stage is better than doing it later after getting PR.

Hi,

As I replied to u on another forum, Relax, there's No Problem with this issue.

1. Write the names on the 'updated info chart' as it appears on your pps.
2. Or, *u yourself 'split it' into 'Surname' & 'First Name'.
3. U do not need to go into the rigmarole of re-establishing your names in the pps, thru Congendia.

Regards.
Qorax.

*I did that. My/our pps also showed our names 'all-in-one-go'. There was no issues & I got the visa/s.

Yes this is a standard mistake made by Indian passport office..... (may be they do not give a damn about errors..) Also remember that surnames do not hold the same siginficance in India unlike the west were your all your official records are maintained by your surname, date of birth etc. Even if you get away this time with the visa office you will end up doing a lot of explanation at all stages of your records in Canada.

If I were you I would have got it corrected in the first place when I notice such a glaring mistake. If delhi is your visa office there are chances you may get away with it. If not you have to make the amends with the passport office.

Better be safe then sorry.

All the best.

Uhh... Kash bro,

Plz do the following:
1. Write the Updated Info Chart with 'breaking-up' your names into 'surname' & first names'.
2. Send a cover letter to CHC explaining all u have said in the post in this thread.

That'd suffice.
By the way, why this scenario now? Didn't your meds come with names as Surname & First Names? For all of your family members.

Regards.

hi qorax,

thanks a lot for your help brother ...... yes in my medical forms it was all-right ... but in the PPR they were specific so got worried ....

however as per wilson / migcan i contacted the empost service handling indian passports and they said that generally any changes in the first page would require issuance of new booklet ... but for immigration specific cases they have done endorsements based on sworn affidavits ... in this case they would put a stamp on one of the passport pages stating ... bifurcating the surname and given name .... in the same booklet ......

i now fully understand that this wont be an issue but as i have the time ....i suppose better get it done as my passport is valid till 2017 ... it might be useful in the future if it is clear .......
so i will sort it out by this week ,.....
thanks a million .... for all your advice .... just the last jitters before the visa comes .....

and by the way qorax ... i will be in the area tomorrow for the dubai chapter meeting at lunch ... will try and make it .... it will be nice to get to know each other .....

thanks a lot for ur help .....
god bless.
best regards.
kash.
