Hello

I need to get PCC and Birth Certificate from the Indian Embassy - Washington
The Miscellaneous Form states that both need Original Passport
Has anyone applied for these together ?
(1) Can we request both PCC and Birth Certificate in the same form (or each separate) ?
(2) Can we enclose both together alsong with the Original Passport ?

Normally how much time they take ? Will they return the Passport immediately (even if the Certificates will be mailed later) ?

I tried their Help line number but it is going to Voice Mail (always...)

Any help ?

Hello Tapak

Thanks a lot for the reply
I could finally get someone on that line.
They confirmed that I can apply together

They are not quite sure about the time that will be taken for the PCC. But they will retain the passport till such time (quite disturbing, but no other option)

When you send them the form to apply for PCC and Birth Cert, you can send them notarized copies of your passport. They will give you a file number (in my case, via phone). Then you show up in person with your passport (or mail it in) to collect these Certificates.

Also, if your passport was issued in the US (not India), your PCC gets done faster. Good luck!

I called the Indian Embassy in D.C. yesterday and had the pleasure of talking with an extremely rude Mallu lady. Her tone suggested I had committed a big crime just by calling them. I asked her if I can send copies of my passport for the PCC, and she said they needed original passport. I began to tell her NY allows notarized copies, and she interrupted me by saying don't tell me anything about NY - they are different we are different. She cut me again when I started to say I am not comfortable sending my passport for such a long time by saying we cannot help you if you are not comfortable. It has been a long while since I've talked to someone this rude. That is not my complaint, what I am pissed about is that she did not try to help me at all, and that is her job!

Probably just another case of take a Babu out of India....

If anybody had better luck interacting with a different rep please give me their details.

I too experienced the same situation with a lady when I visited Embassy sometime in January. I don't think any other country's Embassy people do like this.
