Hi Bryaan,
I am currently in India and travelling to UK on 22nd Nov on tier 2 long term work permit. I would like to visit my friend in Canada for a week during Christmas and New year. Can I apply for a Canadian visa from London VFS office ? As i am traveling on 22nd I would need to apply immediately after landing.

I have been to Uk last year and have my bank account and financial proof of money can be deposited.

Is it really possible to go ahead with that ? Will I get my Visa ? My friend is a student there and he is sending me an invitation letter with enrollment certificate of his college

Awaiting your reply.

Regards,
Karthik

Hi Karthikeyan,

Ideally, you should apply from India because you won't have sufficient *ties* to the UK when you apply at the London CVAC. However, as you are traveling shortly, you can apply from London.

You must:
1. Submit proofs of your immigration status in the UK (your WP, biometric residence permit, etc) + also, other proofs like Tenancy Agreement

2. Do you have UK bank account(s)? If yes then do submit bank statements for the UK bank account (online PDF will be fine) + bank statements for your India bank accounts

Any last-minute bank transfers must be explained with evidence. Do not borrow money from anyone just before you apply. Typically you must show about CAD 1000 per week of visit + airfare + money for other expenses

If you want to show foreign currency: Buy Forex cards topped up with CAD (submit proofs that it is purchased from your India bank accounts).... or foreign currency purchased from RBI licensed forex dealer (not the regular forex guys) with a receipt stating your passport details and name.

3. Show you have ties to both the UK (country of residence) ie UK work commitments, UK deployment letter issued by your employer, etc + India ties (home country) ie property, family, financial, etc

4. Prove you have the finances (in the UK) to pay for your visit

5. Do you have UK credit cards?

6. Provide proofs for a *must return by XX date* to the UK after the New Year. For example, project completion, client visit, etc

7. Leave approval letter from your employer (even though it covers the Christmas/New Year period) stating you'll have your job when you return

8. Have you visited other countries - Schengen/US? Submit copies of these visas with entry/exit dates + purpose of each visit

9. Your friend must send you: Invitation letter (offering to provide accommodation, travel and living expenses) + copies of his study permit, passport, etc

Cheers :)

You can ask the visa office(s) if they will allow this before you apply online.

Do send your enquiry to the visa office responsible for your location:
NDVO: DELHI-IMMIGRATION@international.gc.ca
Bangalore: BAGLR-IMMIGRATION@international.gc.ca
Chandigarh: CHADG-G@international.gc.ca

You can also write to the London visa office (I'm not sure which one is correct):
london-im-enquiry@international.gc.ca
re-london-im-enquiry@international.gc.ca

It will probably take a few days/next week before you hear from the India visa offices

My understanding is that the visa fees are coded/assigned to a particular visa office (where you applied) and linked to the issued visa so you are effectively asking London to stamp a visa that India has been paid for. CIC/ Federal accountants don't like these kind of transactions as they can hide/mask either inefficiencies and/or internal fraud. I'm expecting your request to be bounced or if accepted to take a long time which will only delay visa stamping. No harm in asking though and good luck.
