Hi, I am trying to apply evisa for my son who last visited India in 2022 with OCI card and Canadian passport. Since he is an infant his passport got renewed with which the OCI card is also invalid since it’s tagged to old passport.
Now when applying for evisa, there is a question “Have you ever visited India before” where the answer is Yes. They are asking for Type of Indian visa and it doesn’t have OCI as the selection.
what do I need to update here? I am afraid that they will search for previous Indian visa and deem the application as ineligible since they can’t look up the oci in type of visa category.

please advise

With a new passport for minor, the OCI doesn't get invalid. You have to just upload a copy of the new passport and a latest photo in the OCI portal under Misc. services. They will update the new passport info in their OCI systems and you are good to go.. Once they update, you will get a confirmation email. There is no payment required and no trips to BLS, its all on the OCI portal.

Thank you for your response. I was not aware of this. Thank you for letting me know. We have a travel planned on Feb 3 and looks like this whole process might take 30 to 45 days as per https://www.hciottawa.gov.in/whatsnew?id=71
Do you think I should go ahead and update oci details as well as obtain evisa just an alternative? If I have to apply evisa then probably mark didn visit India before because my son didn visit with new passport?

Yes, they take about 30-45 days to update the info in their systems, however you are good to use the OCI while they update the records.

To quote from the same link you provided,
"11. There will be no restriction on the OCI Cardholder to travel to/from India during the period from the date of issue of new passport till the date of final acknowledgement of his/her documents in the online system."

If you still go ahead and apply for e-visa - you need to answer that he visited India earlier. The answer should be based on his visit to India as a Canadian, not based on the specific passport or old passport used.
