Independent worker - work permit

I am an international student from France and just did a BA and 2 certificates at McGill. I now want to work in Canada, and am eligible for both a work permit and a post-grad work permit. Which should I choose, considering that I plan on working as an Independent worker (consultant)?

Apply for your PGWP first as that is an open work permit assume for 3 years based on limited post info and an opportunity not to be missed.

The PGWP will allow you to work whilst you setup your application for any other type of permit or PR although by independant if you mean self employed that is not necessarily an easy route.
