Dear Fellow Members,
I got married in late August this year. Me and my wife have both been living together in Canada for little more than 2 years now. I am still a full time student in a Master's program and she finished 1 year of PGD from a college, and also has 1 year of work experience in Canada now.
I thought she should apply for PR, because we checked her individual points and she got 490 points. I am still working on my research and hoping to finish my Masters degree by mid January 2017. Moreover, I have not given IELTS like her. So, I thought it is a better idea that she declares that she is married and in the number of family members also mentions 2 (including her and me), but does not add me as an accompanying family member. That way I don't have to bother about giving IELTS now and wait to finish my degree till January, because without both these things, I am bringing her points down. I can give IELTS, and score well too. That is not the issue. It's just that I checked the cut off recently and it was 475. I thought she should apply immediately and hopefully will get an ITA. After my Master's, I can go individually via the PNP route. We used the Comprehensive ranking tool on CIC website to check the score.
One of my friends told me that this is wrong as you are giving wrong information because how can you say that you are not accompanying her when you are already in Canada living with her. That got me thinking and I am confused if he is right or not? Yes, I am in Canada, but she is declaring in her application that she is married, she is also specifying the number of family members as 2. When she answers 'NO' to the question about her spouse accompanying her, is it wrong? Are we making a mistake that will get us in trouble in future? I don't intend to apply as a dependent for PR, on her sponsorship in future. I have my degree and will get a 3 year PGWP, I can comfortably take the PNP route for myself.
