To sum things up: DON'T DO IT!! Use the Out of Canada process!

Here is our story. My wife was here in Canada on a work contract when we met and eventually got married. When we started the immigration process we hired a "professional" consultant (certified) and had explained to us the difference between the 2 processes. We were told that the In Canada process took on average several months longer, but had the advantage of being able to get an open work visa while we were waiting. Though we were anxious to get the kids, being able to save more money with the 2 incomes sounded like a good idea at the time.

It wasn't.

My wife's part of the application was processed in Vegreville with no issues though it took about 10 months. But then, it was forwarded to Manila for the kids and the problems started. In spite of already having filled out all the forms for the kids, Manila chose to ignore that and sent the kids (who were well under 10ys) a set of new forms to fill out. (out-dated forms at that, that you can't even download) The nightmare began..... we tried contacting Manila - no replies... ever. They refused to communicate with us and Vegreville could not help. The application was in Manila and they had no access to it. In spite of asking Manila via email to at least send us copies of what they sent the kids, they not only refused, but did not bother replying to our request. We went through several rounds of lost mail, and then when the kids caretakers GOT the mail, we had to have them send it to us in Canada, fill out whatever needed done, and send it back. At one point when we thought all was finished after a few months, WE finally got a letter from Manila. We were happy untill we read it.... they told us they were going to close our application if we did not respond within 15 days because we had not complied with a request for something or other (lost mail again). (possibly an expired medical - we did THREE of them).

In short my little advice...... ONLY do an In Canada Process if the applicant AND dependants are IN Canada.

It was almost 4 years before we finally were able to get her children.

I hope this helps someone.
