In Canada but not meeting RO

Hello,
I wanted clarification on a hypothetical situation.

If me and my wife are Canadian PRs but not meeting RO and are able to get into Canada without being reported with our US born son. Is there a way we can extend the child's stay beyond the initial 6 months in Canada till we meet the RO and then apply for his PR.

You can apply to extend his 'visa', which really means his visitor status. Just understand that any contact with CIC opens up the possibility of them examining your RO a bit closer.

No, but you will be putting yourself into light by submitting the extension. They will 'wonder' why you are not applying to sponsor your child and only wanted to extend his visitor status. As long as you stay as far under the radar as possible, you can achieve what you are asking, but if you don't already have all your documentation in place, i.e. health card/drivers license/sin it could get to be quite a tangled mess for you.

One can't give a definitive answer on documentation due to varying requirements between the provinces.

In general:

For health care:

A valid PR card is accepted everywhere.

A record of landing is accepted in most provinces. It is NOT accepted in BC. Some provinces don't really seem to have a clear policy.

A PR card expired not more than 5 years is accepted in Ontario.

For drivers license:

Most require proof of legal status in Canada. (See above list to know what is accepted where.)

Ontario does NOT require proof of legal status in Canada. (A foreign passport is good enough.)

For a SIN:

You're not getting this without a valid PR card. Period. There is no way to work legally without a SIN. Not having a SIN also means not being able to apply for/access many provincial government services.


In regards to your child:

Theoretically, you could apply for an extension every 6 months. I don't think he can go to school as a visitor. Also, he will not be able to apply for health care. As others have mentioned, an application for an extension may lead to a CIC inquiry.

Then of course there's the small matter of getting in without getting reported.

Not meeting RO and planning to move from usa to canada. We have one 2 year old child who is us citizen.
If you can tell how did you enter to canada without being reported then it would be great and help a lot in my case.

You need to have good luck on your side with the CBSA officer you happen to talk to and hope they don't ask too many questions.

Could you tell me how you entered Canada without being reported? Did you go to Canada from the US by train or private car? Thank you.

Check English grammar and usage of the conditional tenses (most of them do begin with WHEN or IF).
