Hi everyone,

My current study permit expires In Sept. 2016, and I will be graduating in June 2016. I have to serve a mandatory military service in my home country for 2 years, and one of the plans I'm considering is to pursue Master's degree. I'm thinking 1 year Masters of engineering (M.eng) program. I'm a bit worried though because I've heard some people telling me that once you finish your current study, and your study permit expires, you can no longer enter Canad as a student. You can only enter as a visitor. Is this true???

In my case, I would like to re-apply for a study permit when I'm closer to finishing up my military service once I get admitted to a Master's program.

Also, the reason I mentioned that I would like to study 1 year M.eng because I'm not sure if I can get Post graduate work permit after I finish any 1 year M.eng program in Canada. I would like to apply for PR after getting the degree.

Please help me with these two questions.

Thank you so much!

You would apply for a new study permit once you want to return to Canada to take a Master's. (There is no rule saying that you can no longer enter as a student once you finish one degree.)

As long as you don't apply for a PGWP after you finish your current studies, you can apply for one after you finish your Master's
