I live in California and I will be moving to Ontario next summer for school. (I plan to drive my car for the entire trip). The problem is my car has been turbocharged so I can't get my car smogged here again and my tags expire in June. The car is more than 15 years old so I won't have to register with the RIV. Can I still import to Ontario with dated tags and what steps should I take to get it done?

If your car is turbo charged and you are in the whole funky lifestyle of need4speed/fast and furious type, drag racing is illegal and you cant go 50 over the speed limit anywhere in Ontario, otherwise the you will be fined, charged and put behind bars, and your car will be impounded

Meanwhile you are not allowed to take pictures in Toronto parks

I said nothing about speeding, racing or even illegal modifications. I was merly asking if I can import a car with expired tags. Please try to help people aquire information instead of putting peoples' lifestyle down

I am merely stating the facts, cause a lot of Americans come here to find out that laws arent same. I am assuming people don't turbocharge their cars to take family out for picnics. For tags I am hoping someone in this forum can help you with that

Well I hate to burst your bubble but I'm a Canadian citizen. And if the only reason to have a turbocharger is to street race and get my car impounded then why would manufactures equip their vehicles with turbos?

No worries you really haven't bursted anything. You could be Canadian citizen yet know nothing about Ontario laws. Anyway about cars, its a free world, and more importantly Ontario law does not govern how manufacturers equip vehicles. They make cars for the world to enjoy

First you have to export the car from the States. You can then import the car to Canada. If the tags are expired it really won't make a difference to the export/import business, but it's going to make a difference on how you actually drive the vehicle to get it into Canada. You'll obviously be taking a huge risk driving the car on expired tags, however, as stated, it should not affect the export/import portion of it. Make sure you read all the information necessary to get it exported from the states and imported to Canada effectively and efficiently. I know there have been rule changes since I imported my car a few years back, so I can't really give you any more details.

Good luck
