Hi everyone,
So I applied for visitor status before the expiry of my open work permit, as I found out that I would not be able to obtain a new work permit before the expiry of my old one, but wished to remain in Canada for a little while longer (without working).
I am from a visa-exempt country and if I understand things correctly, wouldn't usually need to send my passport off to be stamped/receive a physical document etc., and would normally only need to show to the border officer's satisfaction on entry to Canada that I was admissible, was a genuine visitor, and had intention/proof that I was ready to leave at the end of my permitted time, and so on and so forth.
So when I applied online to change my status from a worker to a visitor, I thought that the processing time for online applications would be around 2 weeks. However, 2 weeks has since passed and I just wondered if I perhaps just have implied status as a visitor, and don't need to have anything "stamped" in my passport (as I can only assume things are perhaps being done electronically?).
I did receive a message in my CIC account acknowledging receipt of my application shortly after applying, but nothing since.
So as mentioned, just wondered if not receiving anything "tangible" in the passport of a visa-exempt individual was standard practice following an online application for visitor status?
Also, during the online application I seem to remember mention of single and multiple entry for visitors to Canada, so would assume if my status is only implied, once I exit Canada, I would need to apply for a "fresh" visitor entry status before returning?
Just thought I would put the question out there, as this experience (temporary "residence" in a country as just a visitor - beyond a regular 2-3 week vacation) is a first for me.
Cheers!
